Sweet, Sweet Punkins

Ahhhh, sweet pumpkin patch day.
A special day for us as a family, on this day 6 years ago we found out that we were having our first baby.  It was so early on that fall morning 6 years ago that we were searching for things to do.  We decided to go get our pumpkin that morning and each year we come back to the same patch on the same day as a family.

Mr. Heaney and I were so young then, just 26 and 31.
We had no idea what was coming our way.
2 little boys had plans to join us, to be our babies

Our first born is now 5 and our little one is almost 4.
It's hard to believe that only 6 years ago we did not even know these little monsters.
Didn't know what they looked like, what their personalities would be like.

Now we know all of their quirks, we can understand them when no one else has a clue what they are saying.
We knew what makes them happy and what frustrates them.
What foods they will eat and which ones they absolutely refuse to come near.

We didn't know that we would say things to these boys like...
Don't ride on the dog, she is not a horse.
Why did you pee on that?
There is NO hitting, spitting, biting, kicking, punching your brother!
Get your feet outta my face.
And so many other delightful words of wisdom.

But, these boys are OUR babies.

They always will be.
Even when we force them to visit this pumpkin patch on this day as teenagers,
they are our babies.

Happy Pumpkin Patch Day!

What a great post! And I love the pictures. How fun that you all go back to the same patch on the same day of every year. I love family traditions like that! We also have two little boys and are planning (hoping) to find time to go to a Pumpkin Patch this year.
