Hexagons Everywhere!

I have found a little summer project thanks to this post from Diary of a Quilter.
Now I am hooked and don't what to do from here.

I bought on of those little Moda Sampler Boxes months ago and I have had several of the mini charm packs laying around and I just didn't know what to do with them.

The fabric here is Bar Harbor which is really cute.
And the mini charms were the perfect size for a 1 inch hexagon.

We just redid a bathroom and it would go nicely as a wall decoration of some sort in there.

I have 4 of these little cuties complete - it took the whole charm back and I thought I would border then in white hexagons and quilt them.  Something small that would fit nicely in a frame.  We'll see.

I just might have to make a nice quilt out of hexagons.
They are addictive you know.

My boy and his butterfly

Our neighbors brought over three little cups last week, each filled with a chrysalis.  They were going on vacation and asked if our boys would like to watch them turn into butterflies.

SURE!

We took them all with us to Amelia Island, one hatched on the way there and the other two came back home with us, they weren't ready yet.

Yesterday we came home in the afternoon to this sweet little butterfly in a cup.

Our instructions said that we should wait about 4 hours and then it should be able to fly.

So we waited and I took Big J out with me while Lil J was napping on the couch.

This butterfly did not want to leave, he must have stayed with Big J for at least 20 minutes before he flew away.

Maybe it wasn't ready to go just yet but he let us get some great pictures and we really got to see what a butterfly actually looks like.

It got really close!

And then it was time to fly away.

A Surprise Vacation for the boys

Well really a vacation for the husband, because he works waaaaayyyyyy tooooooo hard for his money. So I tried really hard to keep it a secret where I was taking my 3 boys but the husband cannot stand not knowing so he broke me down and found out.

We went to Amelia Island Plantation for the Memorial Day Weekend.

Some got over their fear of the ocean and some did not.

Big J finally discovered that he loves the waves and Lil J just wanted his daddy.

A really tough guy

The weekend was complete with toasting marshmellows for smores on the beach

Lots and lots and lots of swimming in the pool with daddy

And even a family bike ride

And  an evening sailboat ride

My sweet baby is turning 5 soon.

Happy Memorial Day!

A Party

Big J's time at preschool has officially come to an end.
I am sad, very sad.
I would keep him there forever if I could.

But....I did get to throw the end of the year party!

Those bears up there are Mr. & Mrs. Honey.
The whole party was themed around them.
They were the adorable class mascots for Big J's class.
They are bears dressed as bees because they LOVE honey!

This past year we took turns bringing them home on the weekend.  Strapped them into our cars and took them along with us wherever we went.  Then we wrote journal entries about our time with Mr. or Mrs. Honey and then it was off to the next house.

So of course they came to the party.

There were kiddos playing and bouncing and crafting and eating yummy food.

Bees everywhere.

Some flowers.

Some more bees.

And of course presents for the kiddos.

And a sweet little group photo.  Love all these kiddos.
They are going their separate ways next year, I will miss these little ones.

Just One More Quilt

I am sneaking in another Blogger's Quilt Festival quilt before its over.

Go over to Amy's Creative Side to check out ALLLLLLL the quilts.

This is the one I have been working on up until yesterday.
It is made from Heather Bailey's Nicey Jane fabric ~ so cute!

2 charms packs and a white twin sheet from Target!  Whoo Hoo.

I think this is the first quilt that I have made that has not been Moda fabric.
Does this make me a cheater??  NoOoOoOoOo

I really like this girly girl quilt,
it is the first time I used sashing strips.  It all came together nicely.

The husband asked if I will start selling them.  Hmmmmmm...
No where near that point yet - maybe one day babe.

And there is a little surprise on the back - some random circles.
Along with a pieced border from the remaining charms.

The back was a little test to see how well I could do the circles in my machine it was much easier than I thought it would be.  I may just do an entire quilt in circles.

Hope you like it!  Thanks for stopping by.

Makin' Life Cozy - Bloggers Quilt Festival

The Bloggers Quilt Festival started today at Amy's Creative Side.
Click on the button above to see all of the quilts.
Here is mine, a lap quilt for Big J from Sweetwater's Make Life fabric for Moda.
Great fabric for a boy.

I think this is my 7th or 8th quilt - made from jelly roll strips.  Quick and easy but I like it, its different from the patchwork quilts that I have done previously.

It keep this little man cozy at night.

My quilts are slowly but surely getting bigger,
I keep them small so I can do the machine quilting myself.

Maybe one day I will send one off to a professional quilter,
but I kind of like that I make them from start to finish.

My two little models

This is the back -
very fun, bright and cheerful fabric from the Make Life collection.

Thanks for stopping by!
